Its residents may take it for granted, but Colombo is home to many iconic locations and attractions, and Ceylinco Life plans to make the city and its suburbs the focus of an exciting new experience for children. ‘Ran Daru Charika’ is the title of this latest initiative in community engagement announced by the life insurance leader, to provide an entertaining and educational excursion in Colombo for children from all 25 districts of Sri Lanka. Linked to the company’s annual distribution of school timetables country-wide, the Ran Daru Charika competition will provide an opportunity for thousands of children to compete for the 500 seats – for 250 children, each accompanied by a parent – on the first ever tour of Colombo. Distribution of timetables for the 2014 school year began on Tuesday 1 October. Each timetable will have a detachable coupon to be filled in and returned to the nearest Ceylinco Life branch. Winners for the Ran Daru Charika will be chosen by a lucky draw designed to ensure that every one of Ceylinco Life’s 250 branches will be represented by a child. “As is the case with our annual Family Savari program, this effort too will promote interaction and unity across geographic, racial, religious and socioeconomic divides, and offer entertainment and a learning experience while helping create awareness about life insurance,” Ceylinco Life’s Director/Deputy CEO Thushara Ranasinghe said. “It will be a challenging logistical exercise, but our events team has organised bigger and more complex tours in Sri Lanka and overseas.” For children travelling from distant areas, Ceylinco Life will arrange transport to and from Colombo and where necessary, overnight accommodation. The cut-off date for sending in completed coupons is Saturday, 30 November, and the ‘Charika’ will take place in December 2013. The tour will begin from the ‘Diyatha Uyana’ near Waters Edge, Battaramulla and will include visits to the BMICH, the National Museum, a one-hour session at the Planetarium and Independence Square. Meals and refreshments will also be provided by Ceylinco Life. From the children who do not win a seat on the Ran Daru Charika, Ceylinco Life said it will select another 750 for attractive consolation prizes. Independently rated one of Sri Lanka’s most valuable brands, Ceylinco Life has maintained its leadership of the country’s long term insurance sector from 2004 onwards. The company operates the largest branch network among local life insurance companies, and has won multiple international and local awards for its commitment to the community and success in brand equity building.
