CDA to conduct investigation on rejection of desiccated coconut by Greece

Chairman of Sri Lanka’s Coconut Development Board Sugath Handunge says that an international level investigation will be held over the rejection of a shipment of desiccated coconut exported to Greece.

This shipment of desiccated coconut was rejected and sent back by Greek authorities charging that the shipment was contaminated.

The returned consignment of 12,500 kilos of desiccated coconut had been exported to Greece by a prominent company in Sri Lanka and the incident has affected the country’s export market.

The Chairman of the Coconut Development Board hinted that there could be a conspiracy behind this incident to sabotage the desiccated coconut market of Sri Lanka. He also admitted that the standard quality assurance methods needed to be developed to comply with the European market.
