By Sarah Hannan Adamjee Land Investments Ltd., continuing the proud heritage and legacy of the Adamjee Lukmanjee family in real-estate development, manufacturing, trading and plantation, at a press conference held on 12 December at Saifee Villa, Colombo 3 announced the launch of Phase I of Adams Homes in Chundikulli, Jaffna. Addressing the media gathering, Adamjee Land Investments Ltd. Chairman Zainudeen K. Husein stated: “Prior to the three-decade conflict, a vibrant and dynamic Bohra community of 350 members were resident in the Jaffna peninsula. But they were forced to flee to Colombo at the height of the conflict. During the visit of the Crown Prince and heir apparent Dr. Syedna Mohammed Burhanuddin Saheb (the Spiritual Head of the Worldwide Dawoodi Bohra Muslim Community) to Jaffna, he beseeched every single member of the Sri Lankan Dawoodi Bohra community to add their might towards rapidly bringing to fruition, the dynamic vision of President Mahinda Rajapaksa towards economic development and social uplifting of resplendent Sri Lanka and the people, particularly in the war ravaged areas of the Northern and Eastern Provinces. His earnest and particular wish was for the small but dynamic members of the Bohra community to once again return to their roots and help rebuild the onetime vibrant economy of Jaffna. It was in complete deference to his wishes that the concept of Adams Homes was born and spiritually inspired.” Located in the heart of Jaffna Located at 57, Grousalt Road in Chundikuli, Jaffna, the site is at the heart of the city and a highly sought after residential neighbourhood. Adams Homes borders the A9 (Jaffna-Kandy Road) highway and is surrounded by reputed schools, institutions and places of worship. Phase I of Adams Homes consists of seven uniquely designed luxury houses of 7-8 perches, complete with key amenities including split type air conditioning, a solar-powered hot water heating system (hard-water compatible), pressure pump, fitted pantry cupboards, refrigerator, microwave oven, hob and cooker hood, washing machine, tube well, remote control garage door and door phone. A passion and a social responsibility In keeping with its Corporate Social Responsibility policy, it is important to note that the company has recruited most of its labour requirement for this project directly from Jaffna itself. “Today, we have a complement of 35 skilled and unskilled labourers working on our project in which 26 young and relatively unskilled persons have been recruited from the immediate vicinity of Jaffna. This has enabled the youth of Jaffna of not only being gainfully employed but also have an invaluable opportunity to work besides master-craftsmen in the fields of masonry, welding, carpentry and electrical thus honing their skills for a productive future career. In our own small way, this is our humble contribution towards the vision of the President and Government of Sri Lanka towards the rapid development of our beloved motherland and the north in particular,” Husein stated. International standards These houses are designed by the internationally known Arch-Triad Construction Consortium under the able stewardship of Senior Architect Raju Sivaraman and Architect Ruwan and ably constructed by Adams Building Consortium in collaboration with Jayawardena Builders. The design of each home has been crafted to match specifications and standards of quality and luxury, ever-mindful of the optimal utilisation of valuable space. “All interior and exterior finishes have been carefully chosen to ensure true aesthetics, appeal and comfort. To further enhance quality, it is important to note that every wall in the homes have all been constructed out of custom-made expensive clay bricks rather than the cheaper concrete blocks. This not only guarantees all weather coolness in the stifling Jaffna heat but also ensures very high grade plastering and paint finishes,” Jayawardena Builders’ J.M.S. Jayawardena added. Aimed at returning Sri Lankans and expatriate Sri Lankans domiciled overseas, the luxury housing units are also an ideal long-term investment. With representation in the UK, Canada and the US, information and bookings for an Adams Home can be made via the company’s website or through a representative. Interested prospective buyers may also follow the progress of the project via the company’s website www.AdamsHomes.lk.
