Access Engineering Geotechnical and Laboratory Services Unit receives SLAB accreditation

The Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment recently certified that the Geotechnical and Laboratory Services Unit of Access Engineering PLC, which is located at Ranala, complies with the accreditation criteria for testing and calibration laboratories as per ISO/ IEC 17025 : 2025. The Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment (SLAB) was established under the Sri Lanka Accreditation Board for Conformity Assessment Act. No. 32 of 2005 which is the National Accreditation Authority for Sri Lanka that functions under the purview of the Ministry of Technology, Research and Atomic Energy. The Board is entrusted with the responsibility to promote accreditation activities and provide necessary accreditation services to facilitate conformity assessments in the provision of goods and services for domestic and export markets. this covers the accreditation of laboratories, certification and inspection bodies which provide various services to the industry, business community as well as the Government and consumer public. “The Geotechnical Laboratory Services Unit of Access Engineering is the first soil testing laboratory to be accredited in Sri Lanka and is also the first laboratory of a construction company to be accredited with the SLAB certification. The unit became a valuable asset to the company’s portfolio within a few years of its establishment and currently provides various value added services to in-house and external customers in a timely and cost effective manner,” said Nandana Amunuthuduwa, Manager, Geotechnical and Laboratory Services Division. Some of the main services provided by the unit include geo technical investigations, field investigations, traffic surveys, topographical and contour surveys, concrete testing, field testing for earth and road works, testing of aggregates and sand, laboratory tests for soil and testing of bituminous and asphalt among other quality control and quality assurance services. As a valuable support service of Access Engineering, the capacity of this unit enables the company to provide geotechnical and laboratory services both economically and reliably, and also helps enhance innovative techniques and processes that the company has developed within the industry by providing the required proof of quality and standards.
