Webinar on prospects of Belarus- Sri Lanka bilateral trade development

Consequent to the official visit of the Ambassador of Sri Lanka in the Russian Federation and his delegation to the Republic of Belarus in December 2020, bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Belarus has been intensifying in every field, particularly in trade and investment.

The Embassy has been organising a series of activities promoting Sri Lanka in Belarus. In this regard the Embassy in collaboration with Sri Lanka Export Development Board and the Belarus Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with the National Centre for Marketing and Price Study of Belarus organised a webinar on prospects of Belarus-Sri Lanka trade development on 17 May.

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Prof. M.D. Lamawansa opened the event by his welcome speech underlining the importance of developing bilateral relations between the two countries and expressing the intention of the Embassy to facilitate collaboration in economic sphere. 

Sri Lanka Export Development Board Additional Director General/Development Malani Baddegamage welcomed the participants mentioning Republic of Belarus has been considered as a potential market to develop bilateral trade relations and presented on export potential of Sri Lanka in agriculture products: tea, cinnamon, spices, seafood, fruit and vegetables, coconut products, which was followed by the presentation made by Actg. Director – Industrial Products Harsha Pathberiya, on industrial export products. 

Belarusian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Deputy Chairman Denis Meleshkin, while welcoming the participants assured their cooperation towards Sri Lankan exporters and assisting to find reliable partners from the Republic of Belarus.

National Agency of Investment and Privatisation in Belarus Specialist on Marketing Nadya Paltarak made a presentation on business climate of the Republic of Belarus. National Centre for Marketing and Price Study in Belarus Director Valery Sadoho made a presentation mentioning the services provided by their organisation and Head of International Cooperation Department of the same organisation Evgeniya Komarova continued the presentation highlighting priority areas for Belarus-Sri Lanka trade and economic cooperation.

The National Centre for Marketing and Price Study in Belarus highlighted their willingness to offer assistance in conducting marketing research and finding Belarusian buyers for importing potential products from Sri Lanka to the Belarusian market. 

The webinar was attended by a substantial number of participants representing companies in Sri Lanka and Belarus. The discussion aroused keen interest in the audience of both sides. It has been agreed by both parties to continue with B2B sessions in the specific sectors in near future.
