Vidullanka PLC, in partnership with David Pieris Motor Company yesterday inaugurated the 10 MW DPV Solar Power Plant in Ranna, making significant strides in Sri Lanka’s renewable energy journey. Developed under the joint venture company DPV Solar Energy Ltd., the plant was declared open by Energy Deputy Minister Eng. Arkam Ilyas and the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority Director General Eng. Rohana Randombage.
Vidullanka handled the project’s Engineering, Procurement and Construction. The plant comprises 20,496 solar modules, 34 inverters and two SMART transformer stations, and is expected to export approximately 19 GWh of clean energy to the national grid each year, offsetting an estimated 12,000 tonnes of CO2. The project also encompasses a newly constructed transmission line.
The Ranna plant is the largest ground-mounted solar project Vidullanka has developed to date, bringing the company’s solar portfolio to 8 projects, and 46 MW of capacity.
Vidullanka also submitted winning bids to implement 18.7MW/93MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) at its operational solar plants under the NSO’s 150 MW BESS tender. This includes a 4.9MW/25MWh BESS system for inaugurated Ranna plant, which will optimise solar evacuation, reduce energy curtailment and provide grid stability
The successful collaboration between Vidullanka and David Pieris signals the power of partnerships in creating meaningful impact in the renewable energy space. This extends into the consortium’s development of Lot 2 of the 50 MW Mullikulam wind power plant, where they emerged as the lowest cost bidder in the tender. The companies look forward to the completion of this project while building on the success of the commissioned Ranna solar plant.
