Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to strengthen business relationship with Sri Lanka

Consul General Pradeepa Saram recently met with Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Committee for Melbourne Chief Executive Scott Veenker, and discussed Sri Lanka’s efforts in diversifying its export portfolio. Moving beyond traditional exports like tea, rubber, and apparel, Sri Lanka is actively exploring new opportunities in sectors like renewable energy, IT services, education, logistics and electronics. Australia has been identified as a key partner in this diversification initiative, the Consul General noted.

Chief Executive – Committee for Melbourne, Veenker highlighted the strong people-to-people connections as a crucial component of the trade relationship between Victoria and Sri Lanka. He emphasised that the Victorian Government will actively pursue to strengthen trade and investment ties with Sri Lanka through strategic initiatives including trade delegations and market access support. Notably, Victoria maintains the largest goods export relationship with Sri Lanka among all Australian states and territories.

In this context, Committee for Melbourne Chief Executive Veenker extended an invitation to Sri Lankan Trade Chambers to actively participate at 14th edition of the World Chambers Congress co-organised by the ICC World Chambers Federation (WCF) and the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). Scheduled to take place in Melbourne, Australia, from 2 to 4 September 2025, the Congress aims to foster international trade, create new business opportunities, and address global challenges impacting businesses, with a particular focus on international trade dynamics.

The trade relationship between Sri Lanka and Australia continues to strengthen, with Sri Lanka›s primary exports to Australia in 2024 including textiles, rubber products, and various consumer goods.
