Yanitra Kumaraguru
Verité Research has appointed Attorney-at-Law Yanitra Kumaraguru as the Team Lead of its Legal Research Division, which is dedicated to examining, analysing, and strengthening Sri Lanka’s legal frameworks and their enforcement.
Last month, Kumaraguru led a public seminar at Verité Research’s VThink! on the ethics of autonomous weapons in warfare.
Kumaraguru is an Attorney-at-Law of the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka and holds an LL.M. from Harvard University. She has previously served seven years as a Lecturer at the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, and has consulted and published widely on topics including gender, technology and the law, human rights and humanitarian law.
Her appointment comes at a time when Verité Research is expanding its legal research portfolio amid renewed opportunity for constitutional and institutional reform in Sri Lanka.
Under her leadership, the Legal Research Division will focus on areas such as technology and the law, access to justice, climate and the law, business and human rights, and civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights—approached through a robust intersectional lens.
