Sri Lanka has been ranked the number one destination to visit in October 2025 by global travel magazine Time Out, which unveiled its annual list of top travel spots for the month.
Time Out praised Sri Lanka for its warm tropical climate, cultural heritage, and natural beauty, making it an ideal destination for travellers in October. From golden beaches and hill-country hikes to ancient ruins and wildlife safaris, the island was highlighted as offering “a little bit of everything” for visitors.
Top attractions include relaxing on the golden beaches of Mirissa and Bentota, exploring the historic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, and touring the lush tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya. Wildlife enthusiasts can also experience safaris at Yala and Udawalawe National Parks, where elephants, leopards, and other exotic animals roam freely. The scenic Kandy to Ella train journey is also recommended for travellers seeking breathtaking mountain views.
Türkiye and New Mexico followed Sri Lanka on the list, recognised for their autumn colours and seasonal festivals. Other destinations featured include Valencia in Spain, New York City, the Philippines, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Timișoara in Romania, San Francisco, and Namibia.
According to Time Out, the destinations were selected for their seasonal charm, cultural events, and unique travel experiences that are best enjoyed in October.
