Tech veteran Shanil Fernando resigns from NDB Board

Rs. 13.2 billion fraud-hit National Development Bank PLC yesterday announced the resignation of Independent Non-Executive Director Shanil Fernando effective 27 April 2026. He joined the Board in January 2026 and was part of the bank’s digital sub-committee. 

In its 2025 Annual Report, the bank said: “The Subcommittee expects to benefit significantly from his extensive expertise, particularly in advancing its strategic priorities relating to security, resilience, and innovation. His contributions are anticipated to further strengthen the Subcommittee’s oversight and support its ongoing initiatives in these critical focus areas”.

Fernando was a founding member of Virtusa Corporation (NASDAQ: VRTU), a global technology consulting firm, where he held leadership positions including Chief Technology Officer and Vice President, managing engineering teams of over 4,000 associates across multiple geographies. 

Fernando later co-founded Sysco Labs, the innovation arm of Sysco (NYSE: SYY), a Fortune 100 company, where he led global engineering operations and drove transformative technology initiatives. He was also a former Board member of SLASSCOM and Secretary of the American Chamber of Commerce in Sri Lanka.
