The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka successfully hosted an exclusive Bilateral Trade and Investment Session with the gracious presence of Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Sri Lanka Khaled Nasser Al Ameri on Tuesday, 1 July, at the Chamber Auditorium, Colombo 10.

The event provided a vital platform for members of Sri Lanka’s business community to engage directly with the Ambassador and gain valuable insights into the UAE’s trade policies, investment climate, and potential avenues for bilateral collaboration.

During the session, Ambassador Khaled Nasser Al Ameri emphasised the significant opportunities for Sri Lankan tea exports to the UAE, highlighting the increasing demand for high-quality tea in the Emirati market. He also noted the mutual potential in the tourism sector, encouraging both countries to expand cooperation in tourism development and people-to-people exchanges.

Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the UAE Prof. Arusha Cooray joined the session virtually and offered further insights into enhancing bilateral economic engagement. She highlighted practical opportunities available for Sri Lankan businesses interested in entering or expanding within the UAE market.

The session focused on: Strengthening Sri Lanka–UAE trade and investment partnerships; Understanding the UAE market landscape and business-friendly policies; Exploring sector-specific opportunities, including tea and tourism; and creating new connections between business communities for mutual growth.

Ambassador Khaled Nasser Al Ameri emphasised, “Following the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Federation of UAE Chambers of Commerce and Industry and the National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka, during the visit of UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to Sri Lanka, we are in the process of formation of the UAE–Sri Lanka Joint Business Council. This Business Council will aim to serve as a key platform for fostering and enhancing trade, investment, and economic cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka...”

The National Chamber of Commerce of Sri Lanka invites interested businesses, entrepreneurs, and industry stakeholders to join the Joint Business Council as members and actively contribute to building stronger bilateral economic relations.

Membership in the Council will provide opportunities to: Participate in bilateral business forums and networking events; Engage in trade and investment promotion activities; Access market intelligence and business opportunities in the UAE and Sri Lanka; and collaborate on joint ventures and partnerships.

As the UAE remains one of Sri Lanka’s most significant trading partners in the Middle East, this forum served as a timely and strategic opportunity for stakeholders to explore trade diversification and investment potential.

The National Chamber extends its sincere appreciation to Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Sri Lanka Khaled Nasser Al Ameri, and Ambassador of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka to the UAE Prof. Arusha Cooray for their invaluable contributions and thanked all participants for their active engagement in fostering Sri Lanka–UAE commercial relations.
