Sri Lanka to host 7th SAARC Inter-Governmental Group Meeting on Transport from 20-21 June

The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved hosting the 7th meeting of the SAARC Inter-Governmental Group on Transport scheduled to be held on 20-21 June in Colombo.

The objective is to strengthen regional cooperation and diplomatic relations among member States of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

The Inter-Governmental Group was first established during the 32nd Standing Committee Session of SAARC in 2006, aimed at facilitating collaboration in the transport sector at the level of Secretaries to the Ministries. The proposal to this effect presented by the Transport, Highways, Ports and Civil Aviation Minister Bimal Rathnayake was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
