The Cabinet of Ministers at their meeting on Monday approved signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Japan on economic policy dialogue.
“The agreement is to be signed on 16 February with the objective of promoting comprehensive relations between Sri Lanka and Japan, and as part of the efforts to promote and strengthen trade, investments and economic development,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.
He said discussions between the two countries have been ongoing to position Sri Lanka as a strategic export-oriented economic corridor, integrating it into the South Asian markets.
The proposal to this effect submitted by Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
