SLID launches enhanced IT Governance Masterclass to empower Board Directors in digital era

The Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID) has unveiled its newly enhanced IT Governance Masterclass for Board Directors, a timely and critical initiative designed to equip today’s corporate leadership with the strategic insight needed to oversee technology in a rapidly evolving digital world.

With businesses increasingly reliant on technology to drive growth, innovation, and resilience, the role of the board in providing effective oversight of IT strategy, risk, and compliance has never been more important. Recognising this, SLID has restructured its signature Masterclass with expert input and global best practices, addressing the persistent knowledge gaps that challenge boardrooms worldwide.

The course content is in accordance with Technology Risk Management and Resilience (TRMR) for license banks and license finance companies with improvement in the module structure based on the Banking Act Direction No. 16 of 2021 and Finance Business Act Direction No. 1 of 2022. 

Strengthening boardroom leadership in the digital age

The revamped 2025 Masterclass is structured around the five core principles of IT governance – strategic alignment, performance measurement, risk management, regulatory compliance, and resource optimisation. It aims to empower Board Directors to make informed decisions, oversee digital transformation, and mitigate the complex technology-related risks businesses face today—from cyber security and data privacy to AI ethics and regulatory change.

“The goal of this Masterclass is to enhance the digital fluency of Directors and enable them to lead with confidence in an increasingly tech-driven landscape,” noted SLID Chairperson Aroshi Nanayakkara. “Informed Board, are better equipped to ensure IT investments are value-driven, secure, and aligned with the organisation’s long-term goals.”

A practical, high-impact learning experience

Scheduled over two days—20 May and 29 May, 2025—the Masterclass offers a collaborative, case study-based learning environment. Participants will engage with real-world scenarios, interactive workshops, and peer discussions to translate learning into actionable boardroom strategies.

SLID IT Subcommittee Chair Conrad Dias, emphasised the Masterclass’s relevance:
