President to inspects first technology park to be built in Pinnaduwa, Galle

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa is scheduled to inspect the country›s first technology park near the Pinnaduwa entrance on the Southern Expressway in Galle on Thursday.

Under the guidance of President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, five new technology parks will be set up islandwide in line with the Prosperity Vision Policy Statement. 

In addition to the technology park being set up in the Galle district, technology parks will be established in Kurunegala, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Habarana.

The construction of these technology parks aims to develop the technical knowledge and skills of the youth and empower them for the world of the future.

At the request of President Rajapaksa and the Plantation Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana, the Government decided to construct the first Technology Park in the Galle District.

Commenting on this, the Plantation Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana stated that these new technology parks will become a hub for the export of technical services to the national and international markets, giving priority to local innovations.

He also said that these new technology parks will in the future become the leading drivers of the country›s economy and the hub for specialised business services.

The Minister said that in line with the government›s vision of building a technology-based savvy society, new technology parks have been identified as a basic need, which will provide many direct and indirect employment opportunities to the people of the Galle District.

The Technology Parks are equipped with state-of-the-art office complexes equipped with 5G comprehensive communication facilities and other state-of-the-art technology. 

For recreational activities, the selected locations will also feature sports, mental and physical relaxation facilities that blend in with the natural environment, and will create 2,000 direct jobs upon opening.

Thus, the main objective of establishing Technology Parks is to position Sri Lanka as a hub for technological innovation. It is also expected to attract foreign investment, as well as bring about technological advancement and industrial social transformation through innovation. 

In addition, it is expected to encourage new companies with advanced technology promote export oriented industries, create new employment opportunities, disseminate knowledge, improve the living standards of the people in the relevant areas and contribute to the national economic development by earning foreign exchange.

The construction of this technical park is being carried out under the supervision and consultation of the Central Engineering and Construction Bureau (CECB) with the assistance of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission.

This project is being implemented under the supervision of State Minister of Digital Technology and Enterprise Development Namal Rajapaksa and the Ministry of State Secretary Jayantha de Silva.
