BizEx Consulting will conduct a full-day seminar and workshop on Productivity Improvement Techniques on Thursday, 24 September 2026, to help Sri Lankan organisations improve operational efficiency, reduce waste and strengthen competitiveness.
Rising input costs, labour shortages and constraints on investment in new machinery are placing considerable pressure on organisations of all sizes. Competing through low-cost inputs alone is increasingly difficult. Improving how work is organised and performed offers a practical way to make better use of available resources.
The workshop will focus on techniques that participants can apply in their own workplaces across manufacturing, services and the public sector. Drawing on industrial engineering principles and practical experience, it will demonstrate how improvements in processes, workplace layouts, work methods and resource utilisation can enhance enterprise productivity.
The program is relevant to managers, executives, supervisors and frontline employees involved in improving day-to-day operations.
Participants will learn how to:
n Formulate a productivity improvement plan.
n Measure single-factor and multi-factor productivity and identify priorities for improvement.
n Use flow diagrams and flow process charts to improve process flow.
n Apply string diagrams and travel charts to improve workplace layouts and reduce unnecessary movement.
n Use two-handed process charts and multiple-activity charts to improve work methods and balance workloads.
n Apply motion-economy principles to workstation design.
n Use activity sampling and work measurement to establish time standards.
n Analyse material and energy productivity to identify opportunities for improvement.
The program will be conducted by Sunil G. Wijesinha, a qualified industrial engineer and experienced productivity practitioner who has led productivity improvements in manufacturing, service and Government organisations. Having served as an industrial engineer, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of several organisations, he brings extensive practical experience to the program. His teaching draws on real workplace situations, connecting the techniques with the challenges participants encounter in their organisations.
The Tokyo-based Asian Productivity Organisation recognised his contribution with the National Productivity Award in 2000, for his services to productivity improvement in Sri Lanka, and the Regional Productivity Award in 2005, for his contribution to productivity in the Asia-Pacific region. In 2023, the Government of Japan conferred on him the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, in recognition of his contribution to strengthening relations between Sri Lanka and Japan.
The seminar and workshop will be conducted in both English and Sinhala. Lunch, refreshments and a comprehensive hand-out will be provided.
