Pakistan’s Genix Pharma gets tender for 270,000 vials of Meropenem injection

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved procuring an additional 270,000 vials of 1-gram Meropenem injection from M/s Genix Pharma Ltd., of Pakistan, following an urgent request from the Medical Supplies Division.

The decision builds on a previous Cabinet approval granted on 30 December 2024, which awarded the original contract to the same supplier for the provision of 900,000 vials.

The latest move represents a 30% increase on the initial order, driven by a surge in demand across the healthcare sector.

Meropenem is a critical broad-spectrum antibiotic widely used in the treatment of severe bacterial infections, including those resistant to other antibiotics.

With this approval, the total quantity of Meropenem injection to be procured from Genix Pharma Ltd. will now reach 1.17 million vials to ensure uninterrupted patient care and support ongoing treatment protocols in hospitals across the country.

The proposal to this effect submitted by Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
