Ministerial Committee reviews tourism promotion projects, 2027 Budget priorities

The current progress of tourism promotion projects across the country and proposed Budget allocations for next year to further develop the sector came under review at a meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism held recently at Parliament.

The meeting was chaired by Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Minister Vijitha Herath.

Committee members held extensive discussions on the implementation of tourism promotion initiatives in various parts of the country and examined proposed budgetary allocations aimed at strengthening the tourism industry in 2027.

The Committee also reviewed the current status of Sri Lanka’s trade agreements with foreign countries.

During the meeting, Minister Herath informed members that a special committee had been appointed to review the country’s foreign trade agreements and that necessary policy decisions would be taken after the committee submitted its report.

Members of Parliament also put forward several proposals for new tourism projects and programmes that could be implemented in different parts of the island to further promote the sector.

The meeting was attended by Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Deputy Minister Arun Hemachandra, Tourism Deputy Minister Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe and Members of Parliament serving on the Consultative Committee.
