Legendary South African President Thabo Mbeki Chief Guest at Capital Maharaja Annual Convention

The Capital Maharaja Group (CMG) has announced that former South African President Thabo Mbeki would be the Chief Guest of the Group’s Annual Convention and Executive Of The Year awards ceremony.

Known widely as ‘Africa’s Renaissance Man,’ President Mbeki served as the second President of Democratic South Africa from 1999-2008, prior to which he was Deputy President under President Nelson Mandela. Widely regarded as a global statesman, President Mbeki was the first Chairperson of the African Union, which has guided the resurgence of Africa as a continent on the world stage.

President Mbeki and the senior management of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation will meet with President Anura Kumara Disanayake and senior members of the Cabinet during his visit.

President Mbeki will be the Chief Guest at the Annual Convention and 45th Executive Of The Year awards ceremony of the CMG tomorrow evening at Stein Studios in Ratmalana, an event that will see the participation of Sri Lanka’s top corporate leaders and many foreign diplomats, as well as the senior executives of the entire CMG group.

On Saturday, 28 June, Sri Lanka’s young leaders will have the unique opportunity of tapping into the wisdom and insights of this global leader at the “Circle of Dreams” youth forum, which will be hosted at Cinnamon Life’s spectacular City of Dreams.

Later, more than 30 of Sri Lanka’s top corporate CEOs are expected when President Mbeki engages in a fireside chat with CMG Group Director – Media Operations Chevaan Daniel on the topic of ‘Looking Forward: The Importance of Building the Future While Reconciling the Past’ at Cinnamon Life.

President Mbeki’s visit will be capped off with a visit to the Galle district, where he will lay the foundation stone for a library at Ampegama Primary School. The project by Gammadda will result in the ‘Thabo Mbeki Library,’ serving hundreds of students of this century-old school.
