KITZ Corporation Japan alleges branded plumbing products being imitated

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanka S. Boderagama is conducting an inquiry into a case in which the Financial Fraud Unit of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has charged two hardware shop dealers for allegedly selling duplicated KITZ plumbing products while misleading customers into believing they were genuine.

During the trial, the Manager of Elite Corporation of Messenger Street, the distributing agent for KITZ Corporation in Sri Lanka, giving evidence said that the company is the authorised agent for KITZ Corporation of Japan in Sri Lanka. The witness also produced a ball valve manufactured by KITZ Corporation, asserting that it was a sample of an original KITZ ball valve.

The witness stated that the products produced in court by the CID were not genuine and were fake.

He further asserted that there is no other agent representing the Japanese KITZ Corporation for plumbing products in Sri Lanka other than their company.

The CID has named two hardware goods dealers as accused in the case.

Senior Counsel Deshan Hewavitharana, with Gimhani Hettiarachchi, appeared for KITZ Corporation of Japan, instructed by Sudath Perera Associates.

Further inquiry was postponed to 19 March.
