The International Business Council – Sri Lanka (IBCSL) has confirmed it will lead a national business delegation to attend the 4th China-South Asia Standardisation Cooperation Conference, scheduled to be held in Chengdu, China, from 8 to 10 July.
The invitation was extended by the South Asian Standardisation (Chengdu) Research Centre (SASR) under the Standardisation Administration of China (SAC). SASR Director General Dr. Zhuang Yuanyuan and Project Manager Huang Ping have personally invited Sri Lankan representatives to engage in high-level technical cooperation dialogues.
The conference focuses on harmonising product, service, and technical standards between China and South Asian nations. For Sri Lankan exporters, particularly in tea, apparel, gems and jewellery, rubber products, and IT services, alignment with Chinese national standards (GB) can significantly reduce non-tariff barriers, inspection delays, and certification costs.
“This is not merely a diplomatic forum. It is a practical platform, where Sri Lankan businesses can directly influence how standards are shaped for goods moving between South Asia and China,” said a senior representative of the IBCSL.
Sri Lankan exporters, manufacturers, trade associations, quality control officers, and Government regulatory bodies are encouraged to join the delegation.
Topics to be covered include cross-border mutual recognition of testing and certification; digital standards for e-commerce and supply chains; agricultural and food safety protocols, and sustainable development and green standards.
Sri Lankan businesses and professionals seeking more information, the conference brochure, or a pre-invitation letter may contact the IBCSL directly at [email protected]
Interested parties are advised to make contact no later than 10 June to facilitate visa processing and travel arrangements.
The IBCSL facilitates trade, investment, and technical cooperation between Sri Lanka and BRICS nations plus partner economies. It actively supports Sri Lankan enterprises in accessing global value chains through policy dialogue and capacity building.
The SARS, operating under the SAC, leads research and cooperation on technical standards between China and South Asian countries. The annual China-South Asia Standardisation Cooperation Conference is the flagship platform for this engagement.
