High Commission hosts roundtable discussion on strengthening SL-UK economies ties

The High Commission of Sri Lanka in the UK, in collaboration with the Sri Lanka–UK Chamber of Commerce (SLUKCC), hosted a roundtable discussion on 3 July to explore ways to strengthen bilateral economic relations between Sri Lanka and the UK, focusing on Sri Lanka EXPO 2027, to be held in Colombo in January 2027.

The High Commission was pleased to welcome British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Andrew Patrick, who participated in the discussion at the invitation of Sri Lankan High Commissioner to the UK Nimal Senadheera while on an official visit to London. The discussion was also attended by members of the SLUKCC, business leaders, investors, academics, and professionals representing a range of sectors.

The two High Commissioners shared their perspectives on the future of UK–Sri Lanka economic relations and opportunities to strengthen bilateral trade, investment, and innovation. Discussions focused on Sri Lanka’s macroeconomic reforms, trade and tourism, the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS), education partnerships, and investments in technology.

During the session, the Minister – Commercial of the Mission delivered a presentation on Sri Lanka EXPO 2027, highlighting the High Commission’s efforts to facilitate the participation of a UK delegation at the event. The High Commission is also working to organise a high-level Business Forum in September as a precursor to Sri Lanka EXPO 2027 to further strengthen investment and trade partnerships between the two countries.
