HDFC Bank Sri Lanka with the intention of contributing to reduce and recycle plastic waste, the bank joined hands with Eco Spindles recently.

In order to bid farewell to the plastic menace, this programme will place plastic waste collection bins at selected HDFC Bank branches where the bank’s customers can dispose any recyclable plastic waste such as empty PET water/ soft drink bottles, hand sanitiser/ hand wash bottles, empty plastic containers/boxes, etc.

What really happens to the plastic waste? The disposed plastic will then be separated and will undergo a recycling process that will result in the production of plastic-based raw materials such as bristles and yarn. So not only are you disposing plastic waste in an environment-friendly manner but also are contributing towards recycling as a responsible citizen!

HDFC Bank Chairman Wasanthi Manchanayake pointed out the importance of raising awareness among the stakeholders and people about this initiative and invited everyone to contribute to save environment by discarding waste plastic into the collection bins.

HDFC Bank CEO/GM Palitha Gamage said: “Recycling of waste is fundamental to the development of a sustainable society. This is a great step towards that end.”

BPPL Holdings Plc MD/CEO Dr. Anush Amarasinghe said: “As Sri Lanka’s largest plastics recycler, we are extremely pleased to have signed an important MoU with HDFC supporting their initiative to promote environmental protection delivering sustainable value to their customers as well as contributing to saving the planet.”

Eco Spindles CEO Prasantha Malimbadage said: “Eco Spindles’ recycling operation continues to have a massive beneficial impact on the environment. Partnering HDFC Bank will significantly increase public awareness towards the responsible disposal of PET and help build a sustainable, circular economy.”

HDFC Bank invites valued customers and all responsible citizens to drop off recyclable plastic waste at the collection bins and walk with together, towards a greener planet.
