The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved to award the consultancy contract for enhancing meteorological infrastructure to GreenTech Consultants Ltd. following recommendations by the Consultancy Procurement Committee appointed by the Cabinet.
The consultancy work is a key component of the country’s multi-phase climate resilience program, launched in October 2021 with the support of the World Bank.
The comprehensive nine-year program is slated to continue until 2030, aiming to strengthen the country’s preparedness and response to high-impact weather events.
To support stage one of the initiative (2021–2026), Sri Lanka secured a $ 92 million loan from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) and the World Bank. One of the major components of this phase involves upgrading infrastructure at the Department of Meteorology’s head office and regional centres, specifically in the areas of flood and landslide forecasting and early warning system enhancements. Competitive international bids were called to select a suitable consultancy firm to guide the technical and operational implementation of these improvements. Green Tech Consultations was selected through this process to provide the necessary expertise and oversight.
The proposal to this effect submitted by Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation Minister K.D. Lalkantha was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
