For many students, life after Advanced Level examinations marks a turning point defined by both opportunity and uncertainty. While school provides structure, the transition into adulthood rarely comes with a clear roadmap.
Future Builders Lab is a newly launched four-week immersive experience designed to help students understand their strengths, explore emerging career pathways, and gain clarity on the opportunities available in a rapidly changing world.
The program is a guided yet exploratory journey that helps young people move from uncertainty to direction through self-discovery, industry exposure, mentorship, and practical learning. By combining future-focused learning with real-world perspectives from entrepreneurs, business leaders, and industry practitioners, it equips participants with the confidence to make more intentional decisions about the decade ahead.
Developed by Generation ALPHA in collaboration with TiE Colombo, the initiative responds to a growing need for young people to navigate an increasingly complex landscape shaped by technological disruption, evolving career pathways, and expanded access to opportunity. While students spend years preparing for examinations, few opportunities exist to help them understand themselves, explore what is possible, and build a practical framework for the future.
TiE Colombo Founding Charter Member and Grant Thornton STAX Partner Ruwindhu Peiris said: “School gave our youth a structure, but real life doesn’t. We happen to live in the most opportunity-rich period in human history, yet for a student trying to figure out life after A/Ls, it can also be one of the most overwhelming. Today, clarity has a higher premium than ever before. Future Builders Lab is a timely intervention designed to help students optimise the defining decade of their youth by cutting through the noise, discovering their inherent strengths, and actively building their own direction.”
A distinguishing feature of the program is unparalleled, direct access to the visionary entrepreneurs, enterprise executives, and venture investors driving Sri Lanka’s economic future. Drawing from TiE Colombo’s elite network of charter members, students will gain firsthand exposure to leadership and breakthrough innovation across diverse industries.
The program features immersive engagement with global technology pioneers like 99x, IFS, and the hSenid Group; strategic financial and corporate advisors from Deloitte and Stax; and market leaders shaping the modern landscape of lifestyle, hospitality, and sustainable infrastructure, including Vella, Velona, Hameedia, Rockland, and Vidullanka. Crucially, participants will interface directly with the architects of the island’s capital markets and startup ecosystem, including venture capital and investment banking pioneers BOV Capital, nVentures, and Investrust Capital, alongside banking and non-banking financial heavyweights like Alliance Finance. This powerhouse network ensures participants graduate with a rare, 360-degree understanding of global market dynamics and the actionable entrepreneurial mindset required to lead in a rapidly evolving world.
Generation ALPHA Founder and CEO Miuli Kalubowila said: “Every young person carries untapped potential. Yet potential alone is never enough. It needs the right experiences to challenge it, the right exposure to expand it, and the right support system to help it grow into something extraordinary. Future Builders Lab was created to fill that gap, providing young people with the guidance, opportunities, and real-world experiences they need to discover their path and build their future with confidence.”
Future Builders Lab adopts a deliberately focused approach, prioritising meaningful engagement, mentorship, and experiential learning over scale. The initiative is founded on the belief that investing deeply in a group of motivated young people can create ripple effects that extend far beyond individual participants, influencing peer networks, communities, and the future workforce of the country.
