Final draft of new Electricity Act to go before Cabinet in June

Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera said yesterday that the final draft of the new Electricity Act will be submitted before the Cabinet in June.

He also said the final blueprint will be submitted to the Attorney General’s Department and the legal draftsman next week.

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Reforms Committee met at the President’s Office yesterday with the legal and energy consultants provided by development agencies to assist with the relevant reforms to discuss the final draft of the new Act and the transition plan.

Although the original target to complete the final draft was last week, due to observations made by the stakeholders, the amended final blueprint of the Act will be submitted before the Cabinet in June after fulfilling the certification.

He said the Chief of Staff to the President Sagala Ratnayake, members of the CEB Reforms Committee and development agency consultants were present at the meeting.
