The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Viet Nam, in collaboration with VJSC Co., Ltd., successfully co-hosted a tourism promotion event titled “Unlocking Sri Lanka’s Tourism Potential” in Ho Chi Minh City on 8 June 2026.
The event aimed to position Sri Lanka as a premier travel destination for Vietnamese tourists and to strengthen tourism cooperation between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam.
The timing of the event was particularly significant as both VietJet Air and Vietnam Airlines are preparing to launch direct air services on the Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo sector. VietJet Air is scheduled to commence operations on 18 August 2026, while Vietnam Airlines is expected to launch direct flights later in 2026.
The event was co-organised by Vietnam Japan Services and Commerce Co., Ltd. (VJSC), a prominent Vietnamese company specialising in outbound travel and destination marketing.
The program commenced with the traditional Sri Lankan oil lamp lighting ceremony. Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Viet Nam Poshitha Perera delivered a detailed keynote presentation highlighting Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage, diverse tourism attractions, and the growing tourism potential between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam.
VJSC Co. Director Nguyen Tien Bach introduced Sri Lanka tourism products specifically designed for the Vietnamese market, emphasising customised travel experiences and opportunities for Vietnamese travellers.
A key segment of the event was an interactive talk show featuring Pham Hoang Hung of Vietravel, one of Viet Nam’s leading outbound travel companies, and Le Viet Vinh (Vinh Gau), a well-known Vietnamese travel blogger. Their discussion focused on travel trends, destination preferences, and the appeal of Sri Lanka for Vietnamese tourists.
VietJet Air International Sales Director Nguyen Chi Duc presented the Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo air route product and outlined the airline’s operational development plans for the new service.
The event was attended by more than 60 prominent travel companies based in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as representatives from Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, including Mahen Kariyawasan of Andrews Travel Company and Chamil Udawatte of Hayleys Travels.
Participants received gift packs from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, including Ceylon Tea packets and other promotional materials showcasing Sri Lanka’s tourism offerings.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with Vietnamese travel partners, airlines, and tourism stakeholders to promote Sri Lanka as a preferred destination for Vietnamese travellers and to further strengthen people-to-people connectivity, tourism exchanges, and economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Viet Nam.
