Sri Lankan Ambassador to Egypt Ambassador Sisira Senavirathne, accompanied by officials of the Embassy, met with the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association (EBA) Executive Director Dr. Mohamed Youssef, and senior officials at the EBA Headquarters in Cairo on 20 July 2026 to discuss avenues for strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and broader economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Egypt.
The discussions focused on expanding bilateral trade and investment ties and enhancing collaboration between the business communities of the two countries through the EBA. Highlighting the importance of strengthening business-to-business engagement, Ambassador Senavirathne proposed reviewing and revitalising the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding previously signed between the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association.
Ambassador Senavirathne also briefed the EBA officials on Sri Lanka’s growing trade and investment potential and invited Egyptian investors to explore mutually beneficial opportunities in priority sectors. The officials were also briefed on Sri Lanka Expo 2027, the country’s flagship trade and investment promotion event, scheduled to be held in Colombo from 14 to 17 January 2027, and the Egyptian Businessmen’s Association was invited to participate with a business delegation.
Egyptian Businessmen’s Association Executive Director Dr. Mohamed Youssef, reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to working closely with the Embassy to further promote bilateral trade, investment, and commercial partnerships. Both sides agreed to pursue collaborative initiatives, including virtual business meetings, promotional events, and engagements between business entities to strengthen business-to-business linkages, with particular emphasis on encouraging the participation of Egyptian companies in Sri Lanka Expo 2027.
