Economist Anushka Wijesinha joins Hayleys Fibre Board

Hayleys Fibre PLC has appointed economist Anushka Wijesinha to its Board as an Independent Non-Executive Director.

Wijesinha is an Economist with extensive experience spanning Government, the private sector, international organisations, and policy think tanks. His work has covered Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean, with a particular focus on trade competitiveness, economic development, and public policy. He has led and contributed to numerous trade and export competitiveness projects with the International Trade Centre (Geneva) and has developed national and sectoral export and trade competitiveness strategies across several countries.

He is the Co-Founder and Director of the Centre for a Smart Future, established in 2021, and serves as a Partner and Director of Good Life X Ltd. He is also a Member of the Expert Committee on the Energy Economy. Currently, he serves on the Governing Board and Monetary Policy Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and chairs its Board Ethics Sub-Committee.

Over the course of his career, Wijesinha has served as a consultant to the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). He has also held directorships at Seylan Bank PLC, HNB Finance PLC, and Fairfirst Insurance Ltd. His previous appointments include Adviser to the Minister of Development Strategies and International Trade, Chief Economist of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, and Research Economist at the Institute of Policy Studies of Sri Lanka. He has also served as a Council Member of the National Innovation Agency and the Export Development Board, and as a member of the Presidential Secretariat’s Oversight Committee on Exports and Foreign Direct Investment. Internationally, he was a Member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on Innovation Ecosystems and an Asia Foundation Development Fellow at the Korea Development Institute in Seoul, South Korea.

Wijesinha holds a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from University College London, United Kingdom. He is also an alumnus of Harvard Kennedy School’s Leading Economic Growth executive program.
