The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the purchase of 200 single-cab pickups for the Sri Lanka Police, to be sourced from the local market for official duties.

The purchase was originally cleared at the Cabinet meeting held on 23 February 2026, which approved buying 200 imported single-cab vehicles for Sri Lanka Police.

“Bids were subsequently invited under the National Competitive Procurement Procedure, and seven were submitted,” Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said at the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing yesterday.

He said acting on the evaluation of the High Level Procurement Committee, M/s Diesel and Motor Engineering PLC (DIMO) was selected as the substantially responsive lowest bidder.

Dr. Jayatissa said the 200 single-cab TATA Yodha pickups will be bought at Rs. 4,785,000 per unit, excluding VAT.

The proposal to this effect was submitted by Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananda Wijepala.
