Consumer sentiment starts showing fluctuations

The Consumer Sentiment Index, done by Prosoft Research and Insights, has declined slightly to 86 in February 2026, down from 89 in January.

Despite the rapid recovery in consumer sentiment observed in December 2025 and January 2026 following “Ditwah,” the decline in February could indicate a renewed fluctuation in sentiment.

After the strong recovery seen in December and January, consumer sentiment in February appears to have been negatively affected by remaining gaps in recovery efforts, along with gas shortages and issues on coal shipments experienced.

“It remains to be seen how consumer sentiment will evolve in March, particularly in light of the impact of the Middle East conflict. To avoid a return to the period of fluctuations experienced prior to September 2024, it is critical to carefully manage the situation and ensure that market conditions are not further affected by negative sentiment,” said Prosoft Research and Insights which conducts the Consumer Sentiment Survey monthly with a sample of 200 respondents.
