The Confederation of Micro, Small and Medium Industries (MSMI) has extended its congratulations to the Government for the successful introduction of the 20% export tax policy.
It said this important fiscal reform demonstrates strong leadership and a pragmatic approach to strengthening national revenue and achieving long-term economic stability. The move is especially commendable at a time when Sri Lanka is striving to regain economic resilience through sound financial management and equitable contributions across sectors.
Confederation of MSMI Founder President Nawaz Rajabdeen said: “We welcome this decision as a step in the right direction to ensure a more balanced distribution of national wealth, and to support sustainable growth. The export sector has grown substantially, and this reform ensures that its success contributes meaningfully to the national economy.”
The Confederation of MSMI said it stands ready to support the Government in ensuring the policy is implemented in a manner that protects smaller exporters and encourages reinvestment in local industry.
This reform, if coupled with reinvestment in MSMEs, agriculture, tourism, and technology-driven development, can set the foundation for a more inclusive and prosperous Sri Lanka, it added.
