  • Sri Lanka’s first full-cycle plastic recycling model honoured for turning circular economy thinking into a self-sustaining business reality

Cleantech Ltd., has been honoured with the Black Dragon award for Product Launch or Re-launch at the Dragons of Sri Lanka Awards 2026, held at Ramada by Wyndham Colombo and hosted by the 4A’s Sri Lanka on behalf of the Dragons of Asia. The win recognises Re-Circle by Cleantech - Sri Lanka’s first full-cycle plastic recycling model as one of the country’s standout marketing and communications initiatives of the year.

Launched in July 2025, Re-Circle set out to prove that a circular economy isn’t just an environmental ideal but a financially self-sustaining reality. The campaign follows plastic waste through a complete loop from collection to reprocessing to reproduction - turning it into two everyday products, The Dustpan and The Lady Bin, both made entirely from 100% locally recycled plastic. It’s a model built on infrastructure Cleantech has spent over a decade developing, reprocessing plastic waste at scale through a zero-waste-to-landfill system since 2009.

Re-Circle itself stands on the strength of Cleantech’s operations team, whose years of groundwork brought the initiative to life. But turning that achievement into a Black Dragon Award called for a different kind of effort, and that is where Cleantech’s branding team stepped up. From shaping Re-Circle’s story to preparing and championing the submission at every stage, Cleantech’s branding team worked with precision and passion to put Re-Circle in front of the judges – and bring the recognition home. It is a proud reflection of what focused teamwork across Cleantech can achieve.

The Dragons of Sri Lanka Awards celebrate the country’s most impactful marketing and communications campaigns each year, and being named among 2026’s Black Dragon honourees places Re-Circle in distinguished company. For Cleantech, the award adds to a growing list of milestones for the initiative, which has already drawn national press coverage and strong engagement across the company’s social media platforms since its launch.

“Cleantech, for a Cleaner, Greener Tomorrow” has become more than a tagline - it’s the thread running through everything the company builds. With Re-Circle, Cleantech Ltd., continues to show that Sri Lanka’s plastic waste challenge can be met head-on, with solutions that are local, practical, and built to last.

As a part of the Abans Group, founded in 1968 as a diversified conglomerate with a workforce exceeding 10,000 employees and a network of over 400 touchpoints across Sri Lanka, Cleantech continues to remain a leading brand in its category in the country. With Group operations spanning across retail, services, logistics, manufacturing, real estate, and infrastructure services, the Abans Group stays consistently driven by a mission to empower the better way to life.
