The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday cleared republishing and resubmitting the proposed amendment to the Rubber Control Act No. 11 of 1956, following delays caused by the dissolution of Parliament in September last year.
The draft amendment, prepared by the Legal Draftsman’s Department, had initially received Cabinet approval on 26 February 2024 to be published in the Government Gazette and tabled in Parliament. It was subsequently published in the Gazette on 22 May 2024. However, the dissolution of Parliament on 24 September 2024 halted its progression through the legislative process.
Given the procedural lapse, Plantation and Community Infrastructure Facilities Minister Samantha Viddyarathna presented a fresh proposal and was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
