Cabinet approves awarding Rs. 827 m lubricating oil procurement contracts to Lanka IOC and Chevron Lubricants

The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday approved the procurement of lubricating oil for the Sapugaskanda Power Plant for the 2026/27 period, whilst awarding contracts worth Rs. 827 million to Lanka IOC PLC and Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC for both Plant A and Plant B respectively. 

Addressing the weekly post-Cabinet media briefing, Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said tenders were called under the National Competitive Procurement Procedure and three bids were received for the supply contracts.

He said the Cabinet, acting on the recommendations of the High Level Procurement Committee, approved the award of the contract for the supply of 316,000 litres of lubricating oil to Plant A to Lanka IOC PLC, the lowest responsive bidder, at a cost of Rs. 392.47 million (inclusive of VAT).

In addition, the contract for the supply of 304,000 litres of lubricating oil to Plant B was awarded to Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, identified as the substantially responsive bidder, for Rs. 434.86 million (inclusive of VAT).

He said the approvals are aimed at ensuring uninterrupted operational requirements of the Sapugaskanda generation units during the 2026/27 period, with procurement carried out under standard competitive bidding procedures.
