CPA Australia recently hosted its annual Member Recognition Ceremony at the Shangri-La Hotel, Colombo, bringing together finance professionals, business leaders, and policymakers to celebrate the achievements of its Sri Lankan members.

The event was graced by Chief Guest Treasury and Finance, Planning and Economic Development Ministry Secretary Dr. Harshana Suriyapperuma, alongside CPA Australia Chief Executive Officer Chris Freeland AM, senior representatives, and members of the profession.

In his welcome address, Freeland highlighted CPA Australia’s global scale, with more than 175,000 members across 100 countries. He noted that Sri Lanka’s community of nearly 600 members continues to make significant contributions to the nation’s finance sector, business leadership, and economic development.

The ceremony recognised members who had advanced to CPA and FCPA status, as well as those celebrating long-term milestones with the organisation. 58 professionals were newly admitted as CPAs, while 18 members were elevated to the prestigious Fellow designation in recognition of their leadership and impact.

Dr. Suriyapperuma commended the role of professional accountants in strengthening governance, financial management, and investor confidence, noting that their expertise is critical to Sri Lanka’s economic resilience and growth.

CPA Australia Sri Lanka Liaison Representative Dinuk Hettiarachchi said: “Celebrating our members’ achievements is more than recognition – it reinforces the importance of high standards, continuous learning, and leadership in a rapidly changing global economy. These milestones demonstrate the value our members bring not just to organisations, but to society as a whole.”

The ceremony also highlighted the upcoming CPA Congress 2025, the organisation’s flagship thought-leadership event, which will bring together global and local experts to address future challenges in business, technology, and sustainability.

The event concluded with a networking session, providing members and industry leaders the opportunity to connect, share insights, and celebrate the growth of the CPA community in Sri Lanka.
