The CMA Sri Lanka and South Asian Federation of Accountants (SAFA) International Seminar on implementing cost records, cost accounting and cost audit will conclude with a Valedictory Session outlining how a cost accounting framework can help modernise the energy sector.

The seminar, featuring presentations and panel discussions by SAFA member countries India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, will be held today (12), from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Taj Samudra.

The unbundling of the electricity industry into generation, transmission and distribution will make such implementation feasible, benefiting the energy industry, other business undertakings and society at large. The move is also in keeping with Sri Lanka’s newly attained upper middle income status under World Bank criteria, as the economy seeks to advance on a fast track.

Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Chairman Prof. Lalith Chandralal will be Guest of Honour and deliver the Valedictory Address, covering the conference theme and the way forward.

He will be joined by PUCSL CEO Damitha Kumarasinghe; SAFA President Mohammed Humayun Kabir, CMA; Institute of Cost Accountants of India President Chitranjan Chattopadhyay, CMA; ICMA Bangladesh President Kausar Alam; and CMA Sri Lanka President Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala.
