CBSL Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe
Members of Parliament yesterday received a briefing on Sri Lanka’s current monetary policy framework, exchange rate developments and broader economic conditions from the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL), as policymakers sought to enhance legislators’ understanding of the country’s ongoing economic recovery efforts.
The briefing programme, held in Parliament under the patronage of Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne, was led by CBSL Governor Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe together with a team of senior Central Bank officials.
According to a Parliament statement, the session focused on the country’s current monetary policy stance, exchange rate behaviour, economic stability and recent developments relating to Sri Lanka’s economic progress.
Central Bank officials also engaged with lawmakers during the program, responding to questions and observations raised by Members of Parliament and providing further clarifications on monetary and exchange rate policies.
The event was attended by Deputy Chairperson of Committees Hemali Weerasekara, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa, Members of Parliament, Secretary-General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera and other parliamentary officials.
The briefing comes amid heightened public and market interest in monetary policy and exchange rate movements, with the CBSL continuing efforts to maintain macroeconomic stability while supporting the country’s economic recovery and reform agenda.
