The Cabinet of Ministers on Monday (22) approved to award the contract for the supply of 2.2 million vials of Biphasic Isophane Insulin (Human) 30% Soluble, 70% Isophane injection to India’s M/s M.J. Biopharm Ltd.

The contract, valued at $ 3.98 million, was awarded following an international competitive bidding process for the procurement of the insulin used in the treatment of diabetes patients.

Cabinet Spokesman and Health Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa addressing the weekly post-Cabinet meeting media briefing on Tuesday confirmed that two bids were received, with M/s M.J. Biopharm emerging as the lowest substantially responsive bidder.

He noted that the procurement is part of ongoing efforts to ensure uninterrupted access to essential medicines for the country’s growing number of diabetes patients.

The proposal to this effect, submitted by Health Minister Dr. Jayatissa, was approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
