  • Invests $ 1 m on new and an additional 500 tons cold storage facility

Bairaha Farms PLC has commissioned a new cold storage facility with a capacity of 500 tons, marking an important step in strengthening product quality, stock management, and operational efficiency across its supply chain.

The facility was opened recently, by Bairaha Farms PLC Executive Director Riyal Yakoob in the presence of the company’s Board members, management, and staff.

Bairaha Farms PLC Chief Executive Officer Yakooth Naleem said the new facility is expected to play a key role in supporting both local distribution and export operations.

“Over the years, as our volumes and market reach have grown, the need for stronger control across storage and logistics has become increasingly clear.  This cold storage facility allows us to plan and manage stock, distribution, and quality with greater accuracy, reducing losses and supporting consistent outcomes. As we look ahead, investments such as this will be key to scaling our operations responsibly while maintaining the stringent standards our customers and partners expect,” he said.

Developed with an investment of around $ 1 million, the state-of-the-art facility maintains a consistent temperature of –20°C, providing tighter control over storage conditions and product handling. This enhanced cold chain capability will help minimise wastage, improve stock rotation, and ensure that products consistently meet required quality standards across all markets.

These controls are further strengthened through an advanced Warehouse Management System that enables precise inventory tracking and the strict application of first-in, first-out stock management. QR-based traceability has also been introduced, supporting Bairaha’s export operations as well those local market segments requiring product traceability, while improving product identification, monitoring, and handling across the domestic supply chain.

The facility has also been designed to support safer and more efficient working conditions. By reducing manual handling and introducing mechanised movement through reach trucks, the cold storage operation is more worker-friendly, enabling staff to carry out loading and transfer activities with greater ease, consistency, and safety as volumes increase.

The new cold storage facility forms part of Bairaha’s ongoing efforts to modernise its infrastructure and strengthen operational resilience across the value chain. As the company continues to expand its footprint and production capabilities, investments in core systems and facilities remain central to ensuring long-term consistency, efficiency, and quality in supply.
