BCS Sri Lanka Section, the Sri Lankan chapter of BCS – The Chartered Institute for IT, announced the appointment of its new Executive Committee at its 30th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 30 January at Courtyard by Marriott Colombo.
The AGM brought together members representing a broad cross-section of Sri Lanka’s ICT community, reflecting the depth, diversity, and calibre of professionals within the BCS Sri Lanka Section. The newly appointed committee will lead the Section in advancing professional standards, ethical practice, and national and global engagement within the IT profession.
Incoming Chairman Prof. Lasith Gunawardena said: “It is a true honour to take up the Chairmanship of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT — Sri Lanka Section. My journey with BCS began in 1997 as a student member, and I now see this role as a continuation of a lifelong commitment to professionalism, responsibility, and service. BCS is not only about IT — it is about what IT should do for society. As Chairman, I am committed to increasing the value we deliver to our members, strengthening our work around membership, progression, inspiration, and influence — and ensuring that BCS remains a strong voice in shaping national conversations on digital transformation, responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity, and digital trust. I look forward to working with our members and partners to contribute meaningfully to Sri Lanka’s digital future.”
The newly appointed Executive Committee reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s national digital and IT initiatives in the public interest.
Key focus areas for the year include promoting ethical and responsible use of technology, strengthening continuous professional development, fostering technology-led entrepreneurship, encouraging business-to-business (B2B) engagement, and supporting Women in IT initiatives.
