The Attorney General yesterday informed the Court of Appeal that the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) has taken a policy decision not to pursue the promotion or development of LGBTIQ tourism in Sri Lanka.
The disclosure was made when a writ petition challenging the legality of an alleged endorsement related to such tourism initiatives was taken up before the Court of Appeal.
Court was also informed that a letter previously issued by the Chairman of the SLTDA, which had indicated support for projects aimed at promoting and developing LGBTIQ tourism in the country, has since been withdrawn.
In light of these developments, the petitioner informed court of the decision to withdraw the application. Senior Counsel Canishka Witharana appeared on behalf of the petitioners.
