Three new recoveries bring down total active cases to 503

Three persons have recovered from COVID-19 today, reducing the total number of active patients to 503. According to the latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit, the three new recoveries as well as two from yesterday were reported from the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID). A total of 139 recoveries have so far been reported in the country.

The number of active cases stands at 503, with 141 patients receiving treatment at the NIID, 126 at the Navy Hospital, 75 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 66 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 55 at the Kathankudi Base Hospital, 22 at the Iranawila Hospital, and 18 at the Homagama Base Hospital.

The 30 persons who tested positive yesterday were identified through active surveillance in the community, the report stated. A total of 29 of these persons are Navy personnel and their close contacts and a total of 264 COVID-19 positive persons belonging to this group have been identified since 22 April.

The total number of confirmed cases in Sri Lanka has risen to 649, of which 190 were identified from the Welisara Naval Base and 41 from quarantine centres. A further 157 have been identified from the Colombo District, 65 from Kalutara, and 47 from Gampaha.

In addition to this, 187 persons, including three foreigners, have been hospitalised over suspicions of having contracted COVID-19. Of these, 31 are at the Homagama Base Hospital, 20 are at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, and 13 are at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka.
