The first Sailor to recover from COVID-19 has been discharged from the IDH hospital yesterday and moved to complete a 14-day mandatory quarantine program, the Navy said.

The Sailor's family members remain in quarantine at a quarantine facility at the Boosa Navy Station in Galle.   The Sailor had been subjected to three PCR tests while under care at the IDH and had tested negative. According to the Navy, the Sailor had been admitted to IDH on 25 April after he tested positive for COVID-19 on the same day in Ratnapura.

According to the Health Ministry, 324 Sailors and their contacts have tested positive for the virus as of this morning. Over 1,800 Sailors and officers from the Welisara Navy Station and those who were on leave have been subjected to PCR testing up to date.

The Navy has moved 1,023 family members and contacts of the sailors who tested positive for COVID-19 into quarantine centres as a precautionary measure.
