President briefs Maha Nayaka Theros on measures taken to combat COVID–19

Diyawadana Nilame and Malwatta and Asgiriya Chapters donate Rs. 20 m to COVID–19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today briefed the Maha Nayaka Theros on the measures taken so far to successfully combat the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country. The President separately called on the Malwatta Chapter Maha Nayaka Thibbotuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero, Asgiriya Chapter Maha Nayaka Warakagoda Sri Gnanarathana Thero and Malwatta Chapter Anu Nayaka Niyangoda Vijithasiri Thero.

A statement from President's Office said that the Maha Nayaka Theros were updated on the various measures the Government and the Health and Defence authorities have taken to curtail the spread of COVID-19, which has infected 101 persons so far.

On behalf of the Chapters, the Maha Nayaka Theros donated Rs. 5 million each to the newly set up COVID-19 Healthcare and Social Security Fund. The President also paid homage to the Temple of the Scared Tooth Relic in Kandy. He was received by Diyawadana Nilame Nilanga Dela Bandara who also donated Rs. 10 million to the COVID-19 Fund.
