The Government today requested vehicle importers to clear their vehicles from the Colombo and Hambantota ports without delay.

Cabinet spokesman Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that there are 6,600 uncleared vehicles at Hambantota and 533 at Colombo which must be cleared promptly.

“We hear some importers don’t want to take the vehicles out as there are no sales and hence, they are allowing them to remain at the Ports but this is leading to a problem as it takes up a great deal of storage space,” he said.

He added that SLPA officials and DIG Muditha Pussell have been designated to assist importers clear their vehicles from the Port.
