Eight new recoveries bring total to 134

Eight new recoveries were recorded in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today, bringing the total number of recoveries to 134.

Four persons who were receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), three at the Welikanda Base Hospital, and one at the Iranawila Hospital were discharged following recovery.

According to the latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit, the number of active cases is 447, a significant increase from the 390 active cases recorded in yesterday’s report. Of the active cases, 140 are at the NIID, 97 at the Navy Hospital, 67 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 60 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, and 55 at the Kathankudi Base Hospital. In addition to this, 21 patients are receiving treatment at the Iranawila Hospital and seven at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital.

All 65 confirmed cases reported yesterday were identified through active surveillance in the community, the report stated. The report also stated that 208 of the 277 persons identified since 22 April are Navy personnel and their close contacts. Of the 588 confirmed cases, 155 are from the Colombo District, 108 from the Welisara Naval Base, and 63 from the Kalutara District.

A further 317 persons are currently hospitalised on suspicion of having contracted COVID-19, including 26 at the Kalutara District General Hospital, 25 at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, and 25 at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital.
