Deadline reached for postal vote applications

All postal vote applications from the public sector for the upcoming Parliamentary Elections have to be handed over to the Elections Commission no later than today.

A communique issued by the Elections Commission outlined that the certifying officers should handover the applications to the relevant authorities by 4 p.m.

The certifying officers, who have been receiving the relevant postal voting applications since last month have thus been notified to lodge the applications with either the nearest District Secretariat, District Election Office or Election Secretariat in Rajagiriya, along with a covering letter by Election Commission Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya.

Under the previous election date the postal vote applications were to be sent by 17 March. However, due to the postponement of the Parliamentary Election to 20 June following the COVID-19 outbreak, the Elections Commission had extended the handover deadline.
