Active COVID-19 patients rises to 390 with 63 new cases in last 24 hours

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the country has risen to 390 with 63 new cases reported and six recoveries since 10 a.m. yesterday.

Of the six persons who recovered in the 24-hour period ending at 10 a.m. today, four were discharged from the Welikanda Base Hospital, one from the NIID, and one from the Colombo East Base Hospital. A total of 126 recoveries have been reported in the country.

Of the active patients, 138 are receiving treatment at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), 67 at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 58 at the Welikanda Base Hospital, 55 at the Kathankudi Base Hospital, 21 at the Iranawila Hospital, and six at the Minuwangoda Base Hospital. A total of 45 persons are receiving treatment at the Navy Hospital.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases to 523, of which 155 were identified in the Colombo District, 63 from the Kalutara District, and 41 from the Gampaha District. The latest situation report by the Epidemiology Unit states that 72 were identified from the Welisara Naval Base and 41 from quarantine centres. A further 23 are under investigation. The report also states that there are a further 295 persons hospitalised due to COVID-19 suspicions, including 43 at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, 29 at the Navy Hospital, and 27 at the Ragama Teaching Hospital.
