Active COVID-19 cases unchanged at 478, no new recoveries

With 31 new cases and zero recoveries recorded in the last 24 hours, the number of active cases in the country remains at 478.

Of the 31 COVID-19 cases identified since 10 a.m. yesterday, 30 were identified through active surveillance in the community and one was identified through hospital samples collected upon the admission of a person showing clinical symptoms.

There are currently 478 persons hospitalised due to COVID-19, of which 139 are at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID), 127 are at the Navy Hospital, 69 are at the Colombo East Base Hospital, 63 are at the Welikanda Base Hospital, and 55 are at the Kathankudi Base Hospital.

Iranawila Hospital is currently treating 22 persons and three persons are in the process of being sent to a treatment facility.

According to the situation report by the Epidemiology Unit, of the 308 patients identified since last Wednesday, 235 are Navy personnel and their close contacts. The report also states that of the 619 confirmed cases, 170 are from the Welisara Naval Base and 41 are from quarantine centres.

In addition to this, 155 were identified from the Colombo District, 63 from the Kalutara District, and 47 from the Gampaha District.

There are also 250 suspect patients hospitalised, including 33 at the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital, 27 at the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, and 19 at the Homagama Base Hospital.
